Bourbon Smash

A smash is an ancient cocktail template, going at least as far back as Jerry Thomas' 1862 book How to Mix Drinks. It is a type of julep – a concoction of spirits, sugar, and mint. Extra fruit, either in the form of juice or garnish, makes it a proper smash.
  • 2 oz Four Roses Small Batch
  • 3/4 oz Simple Syrup
  • 3 Lemon Wedges
  • 5 Mint Leaves
Bourbon Smash

Method
Add simple syrup, 3 mint leaves and lemon wedges into a cocktail shaker and muddle them until the lemons are broken down. Add the bourbon and fill the shaker with ice; using a long cocktail spoon, stir vigorously until very cold.

Fill glass with ice and strain the drink into the glass. Put the remainder mint in the palm of one hand and gently smack it with the fingers of your other hand (this releases the oils and fragrance). Garnish the drink with the mint and serve.
