Bucciarelli is located in the spectacular hillsides of Siena with a magnificent skyline view. The vineyard extends approximately 9 acres, of which 70% is planted with Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo, 12% Malvasia, and 8% Trebbiano grapes. This vineyard enjoys the typical hills-of-Tuscany microclimate and its very favorable calcareous soil. At an altitude of 1,310 feet above sea level, this superb environment contributes to the production of big reds. This Chianti Classico Riserva is made of 100% Sangiovese. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks for 10-12 days at temperatures not exceeding 82 degrees F. After the malolactic fermentation completes (about four weeks), the wine is decanted into chestnut barrels for 30 to 36 months (depending on the vintage) before bottling. Now after almost three years in the bottle, the wine is drinking magnif-icently. The touch of tannin that it still possesses is more than compensated for by the gorgeous fruit. This is a wine of depth and substance. Bucciarelli is the brand, named for the founder Gaetano Bucciarelli; the winery is actually Antico Podere Casanova. The third and fourth generation now run the property.
